God Is Working!

God Will Make A Way

When I hear that statement I immediately think of a couple of worship songs that I have sung many times. The first is an oldy but a goodie; God Will Make A Way by Don Moen. This song comes straight from Isaiah 43:19. What many people do not know is that this song was written after Don’s young nephew died in a car accident. Don was actually preparing for his funeral when the Holy Spirit gave him this song. Even though Don was a well known musician at the time, this song felt so private that he did not sing it publicly until two years later. Don realized how God had used these words to minister to himself and bring healing to his family.

The lyrics for the chorus go as follows: “God will make a way where there seems to be no way. He works in ways we cannot see, He will make a way for me. He will be my guide, Hold me closely to His side. With love and strength for each new day, He will make a way.”

WayMaker

The other song is newer, Waymaker originally written by a Nigerian song writer, Osinachi Okoro, going by the name Sinach. Most people do not know this song was written by someone living in a third world country with third world country problems. There are lines in this song that declare “even when I don’t see it, You’re working, Even though I don’t feel it, You’re working. You never stop working.”

Personal Story

On a personal note, I have something that I have been daily praying over for more than three years. Something that is very near and dear to me. Something that has a huge impact on me everyday. Looking at the situation through my physical eyes, it seems nothing has changed. A couple of months ago, I was listening to Waymaker and allowing God to minister to my spirit concerning this situation. I asked God why is nothing changing? How long do I have to pray for this? I know that what I am praying for aligns with your will, so why aren’t you doing anything? (Can you sense the frustration building in me?) He gently reminded me that even though I cannot see a physical change in my situation, that He is working. He has never stopped working on my behalf.

God’s Word

Psalm 121:4 came to mind…God does not slumber or sleep. Then I remembered Philippians 1:6…that He will complete what He has started. He will bring it to completion.

Then Romans 8:28 rang in my spirit. He is working in this situation and will bring good out of it. This particular verse is very special to me. I have known this verse for years, I have heard it quoted and sung many times. Yet, in 2012 while in a church service the worship team began to sing this verse and the Holy Spirit used these words to minister to me. My dad had passed away, unexpectedly at the age of 65 the previous year. I was struggling and as I heard these words being sung, God said “even the death of your dad”. I will say that I could not wrap my head around the possibility of this, it made no sense. But I knew who God was, and I trusted Him. As I let these words sink into my soul, a renewed hope arose. My faith was bolstered.

Holy Spirit Speaks

Not long after this, someone asked me how things were, referring to the situation I have been praying for. I started to say “nothing’s changed”, but a gentle nudge from the Holy Spirit reminded me of the conversation we had just had. My response to the question was “God is working”. This is now how I respond each time I am questioned. I answer by speaking the truth. A truth that is active. A promise that will be fulfilled. A reminder that brings hope and courage for me to face another day of prayer for the same thing.

A stillness has settled over me concerning this matter. I have made a choice to quiet my soul concerning my prayer request. Even in the midst of questions, sometimes doubts and seeing no resolution in sight. I am putting my trust in God and learning to count on his faithfulness.

My Prayer

My prayer is that each of you would lean into this teaching as it pertains to your marriage. For those of you who are thriving in your relationship, keep praying, keep pursuing one another. For those of you that are hanging on by a string, HOLD ON! You may be right around the corner from your breakthrough. God desires for your marriage to thrive.

For this we know, God is working!

Remember…”God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” Numbers 23:19.
