“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11
Marriage is one of the greatest places where we can live out this command—to encourage, build up, and strengthen one another. But how often do we intentionally do this in our relationship?
Take a moment to reflect:
- Are you laughing together, finding joy in the everyday moments?
- Do you have spiritual conversations that encourage and challenge each other?
- Is your spouse still the first person you call when something significant happens?
We all desire a deep and lasting connection with our spouse—the kind that, even after years together, draws us closer than when we first started dating. But that kind of relationship doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when we commit to growing and maturing together through every season—whether joyful, busy, or burdensome.
Tammy and I often find ourselves reflecting on the many seasons we’ve navigated together. In those conversations, we laugh, cry, get angry all over again, but above all, we’re overwhelmed with gratitude. It’s a powerful reminder that through every season, God has been faithful.
Our most recent podcast highlights Romans 5 and James 1, which remind us that challenges refine us, making us more like Christ. In marriage, the realities of life will come, but how we respond determines whether we grow together or drift apart. A thriving marriage doesn’t avoid hardship; it embraces it as an opportunity to deepen love, grace, and connection.
This week, be intentional about building each other up. Speak words of encouragement, pray together, and take time to reconnect. Small moments of intentionality create a lifetime of love.
What’s one way you can encourage your spouse this week?
