Choosing a love that reflects god’s design

“… walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭

Marriage is full of choices—how we respond, how we love, and how we sacrifice. You’ve likely heard people say things like ‘The honeymoon phase doesn’t last’ or ‘The ball and chain awaits.’ Culture often jokes about marriage being a burden, but those who say these things the loudest are often the ones struggling the most in their own relationships. The truth is, marriage can be hard, but when both spouses are all in—fully committed to the Lord and to each other—it becomes far more fulfilling than it is difficult.

You might also be familiar with the phrase “choose your hard.” Every marriage requires effort. Loving your spouse well, sacrificing for them, providing for them, being emotionally present—it all takes intentionality. But the alternative is a marriage full of distance, secrets, and pain. That’s a hard road too, but one that leads to brokenness instead of growth.

The beauty of a Christ-centered marriage is that it isn’t built on performance or perfection, but on faith. When we choose to love sacrificially, we lay a foundation that not only strengthens our marriage but also honors God.

What choices are you making in your marriage today? Are they drawing you closer to Christ and each other? Choose the hard that leads to joy, connection, and a love that reflects God’s design.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to choose the kind of “hard” that leads to a strong, Christ-centered marriage. Give me the wisdom and strength to love my spouse well, even when it requires sacrifice. May our marriage be built on faith in You, bearing fruit for Your glory. Amen.
