Building Spiritual Strength in Marriage

“Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather, train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” I Timothy 4:7–8

“Bigger. Faster. Stronger.”

That was the tagline for a popular weight-training program designed for high school athletes. I remember those early 2000s well. Tammy and I had just moved from Miami to the west coast of Florida to help launch a football program at a K–12 school. The energy was high, the vision was strong… and our first season ended with a 2–8 record.

Was it disappointing? Not at all. (Well, maybe a little.) We saw potential. We celebrated the wins. But we knew something vital: if we wanted to thrive, we had to train.

We needed more than talent. We needed strength and conditioning. Weight training, speed and agility work, nutrition—everything had to come together to help these young athletes become the best they could be. And when we got serious about equipping them, everything started to change.

From the Field to the Church

That season laid a foundation for how I think about marriage ministry today.

I meet with pastors weekly, sometimes daily, to present a vision:

What if the couples in your church weren’t just surviving… but thriving?

And what if they were equipped to disciple other couples, so that the weight of pastoral care didn’t rest solely on your shoulders?

Just like no athletic program would ignore the need for physical training, Christian Family Life can be your church’s strength and conditioning coach, because no church can afford to ignore the need for spiritual and relational strength in marriages.

Marriage discipleship is not a luxury. It’s essential. It’s one of the most effective ways to live out the Great Commandment and advance the Great Commission.

We train for what we value. And when we train couples to thrive in marriage, every ministry in the body of Christ becomes more effective.

We Need You!

Just like launching a football program required resources and intentionality, expanding marriage discipleship takes vision, people, and funding.

We need:

  • Recurring donors to help us build sustainable support. Our goal this month is to add $10,000 in monthly giving.
  • Top Golf event sponsors and participants in both Charlotte and Ft. Myers.
  • Marriage disciplers willing to be trained and released into churches and communities around the world.

Would you prayerfully consider partnering with us? Let’s help marriages get bigger in faith, faster in obedience, and stronger in Christ, together.
