Resting when the world feels restless

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

There’s no shortage of heartbreaking headlines.  Another natural disaster. Another war. Another act of violence.  And if it’s not global, it’s personal, family struggles, broken marriages, financial stress, emotional burnout.

It’s enough to make anyone feel overwhelmed.

And while our response as believers must include both prayer and action, here’s the truth we can’t afford to forget:  You can’t carry the weight of the world, but you can rest in the One who does.

The world is broken.
But God is sovereign.
And nothing takes Him by surprise.

We’re called to be faithful, but not frantic. To carry burdens, but not burn out.
Which is why Jesus offers us a better way:  Come to Him and He gives rest.

Rest isn’t laziness. It’s trust.  It’s what happens when we believe that God is working, even when we’re not.

That’s the peace so many of us are craving, not the absence of trouble, but the presence of Christ in the middle of it.

In marriage, this truth matters more than we realize. We carry emotional weight for each other. We want to fix it all. But sometimes, what our spouse needs most from us isn’t a solution, it’s our presence, our prayers, and our peace in Christ that points them back to the true source of rest.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures.  He leads me beside still waters.  He restores my soul.  He leads me in paths of righteousness  for his name’s sake.” Psalm 23:1-3

May we lead with that kind of peace, rooted in who He is, not what we can control.
