“Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.”
– Psalm 61:1-3
The excitement of a fresh start in the new year is probably starting to wane. The day-to-day responsibilities can weigh heavy on all of us. How do you handle difficulty? Who do you call on for help? The Psalmist provides great insight as we read Psalm 61 detailing his conversation with the Lord.
No matter how destitute a situation, God hears, sees, and cares. We are to cast our cares upon the Lord because He cares for us. Even when our heart faints, and it takes all we have just to utter a prayer, God listens.
Our look upward toward God reminds us that we have an advocate who is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. He is our rock, fortress, and strong tower in the midst of the all-out attack of the enemy to discourage and bring defeat.
David encountered treacherous situations in his life. Though an imperfect man, there were many examples of how God protected, empowered, and used him to bring glory to God in tangible ways. You may be facing insurmountable challenges in your marriage and family today.
Resist the temptation to do things in your own strength.
Refuse to give up, thinking all hope is lost. Let the Holy Spirit lead you to the rock that is higher than you.
Remember how God has always been good, and the place of refuge is where you can linger.
Praying the Lord encourages your heart today and fills you with a renewed sense of excitement for all 2025 holds for you and your spouse.
