And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
It was a beautiful church in Naples, Florida. It was a cool, sunny day in July, and the light shining through the stained glass windows was stunning. I entered through a side door, and took my place at the front of the center aisle. The organ was playing, and bridesmaids, a flower girl, and ring bearer all entered to take their place. The organ music changed and the moment had arrived when the double doors in the back would open and reveal the splendor and beauty of my bride to be.
In that moment, time stood still, and everything was just a blur. All my eyes could clearly behold was my bride coming towards me. The anticipation, the joy, and the love my heart felt was overwhelming.
The doors opened, and there she stood, radiant, breathtaking, and walking toward me with a smile that still brings peace to my heart today.
John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
There are moments in life when everything else fades, and one thing becomes crystal clear. For me, that day, it was my bride walking toward me. For the world, it was the moment when God’s glory was revealed in His Son, Jesus Christ. The birth of Jesus marked history forever, it was a moment when the glory of God became visible in the flesh. And if we open our hearts, that same glory can mark our lives today.
This Christmas, allow the wonder and reality of John 1:14 to stir your affections. Find the time to pause long enough to let the noise fade to the background and focus on the clear, heart gripping truth: The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. What an incredible gift. Jesus offers life! Let Jesus breathe life more abundantly in you and in your marriage today! Merry Christmas!
