We have all been to a wedding and are perhaps married ourselves and remember your own wedding. One of the most anticipated moments in a ceremony is to see how the groom reacts once the door is opened and the father walks his daughter, the bride, down the aisle.
Sometimes the groom starts to cry, other times his eyes are wide open with excitement, other times he can hardly take it and bend over to catch his breath. It is such an amazing moment!
This picture of the father walking the bride down the aisle is found in Genesis 2:22, “And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man He made into a woman and brought her to the man.”
God brought Eve to Adam. Adam’s reaction is similar to most, you can almost hear the excitement coming from these words, Genesis 2:23, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”
Adam did not choose Eve. He ultimately embraced her wholeheartedly because it was based on who God was to him. It was not based on Eve the woman. Adam trusted God and received Eve by faith. He knew she was God’s perfect, personal provision for him.
Matthew 7:11 says, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! God gives the best gifts!!
So if God gives good gifts and your spouse, according to Scripture, is a gift from God, what keeps us from believing that and loving them with an Agape love?
The realities of life are real. If we are not careful, they begin to cause angst and resentment with your spouse. The evil one will do all he can to create a wedge between the two of you, but if we continually go back to the truth that God has given us our perfect gift, then let us trust the Lord and live like we believe it.
As we steward the gift God has given us, our spouse, it will begin to reveal what we believe about God. Did He or did He not give us the perfect gift? The answer is yes. Strengthen your relationship with the Lord followed by your relationship with your spouse and watch what God can do in and through the both of you together.
